The Slimes
The Slimes is a game developed by team Olympia - a dynamic team composed of six graduate students from Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center, dedicated to developing a VR experience for their esteemed client, EA Maxis. The team's primary goal was to produce a game inspired by Maxis titles, providing players with god-like powers and innovative forms of environmental control within a captivating slime-themed world.
I contributed as a programmer on the team responsible for developing "The Slimes." Our deliberate choice of a slime theme was driven by the desire for technical challenges. This allowed me to delve into soft body physics and fluid simulation, contributing to the immersive feeling of slime within the game. After exploring 3D object deformations, shader variations and various plugins available in the market, we decided to choose a combination of Nvidia Flex plugin and VertexMotion. My responsibilities extended to prototyping, graphics, gameplay development, integration, and debugging.
The central focus of the gameplay experience centers on creature evolution and behavior simulation, demanding a high level of technical expertise. Additionally, players will have the unique ability to shape the virtual world around them and create new creatures through engaging interactions. The link to the project website is provided below:
